Background: Endogenous Cushings syndrome is caused by chronically elevated glucocorticoid levels. The most common etiology is ACTH hypersecretion from a pituitary adenoma; other causes include hypersecretion of cortisol from an adrenal source or ectopic ACTH secretion.
